THE HERZOG FAMILY PAGE
As mentioned above, Sam Herzog married a Bufler; hence the Darrtown connection.
To see why Sam and his wife started their family in Oklahoma, take a look at the 1890s section, which reports on Sam's work as a Superintendent of Indian schools.

A 2021 Pater family project resulted in the restoration of a 1905 book titled "Centennial History of Butler County, Ohio."
A 2021 Darrtown community event occurred on the afternoon of December 14, when a U.S. military M60 Patton tank rolled up Main Street and stopped in the middle of town. Yes, it arrived on the back of a huge low-boy trailer and yes, it required a half-dozen men and five different pieces of equipment to unload and position the mechanical behemoth...but, the fact remains that... the tank remains... in the Veterans' section of the village square.
Read about this happening and see related images and videos at Military tank placed In Darrtown village square.
A book by that title is listed among several valuable resources in the Historical Research section of this website. All those listed are available as electronic, digitized files.
Joe and Janet Pater's book is the real deal. A book that is tangible. A book that weighs nine pounds and measures nine inches across, eleven inches tall, and 3.5 inches thick. See more about this historical treasure at the Pater Family page.
This "tidbit" section features small, newsy items from Darrtown's past. Sometimes found by happenstance, sometimes found during a focused search, these items often serve as springboards into other subjects (watch for the "more info" links).
Links to these stories appear below...
A 1926 Hamilton (Ohio) Journal News article reported the filing of a will for John W. Fisher, who was a wagon maker in Darrtown. In addition to a one-acre piece of Milford Township land, he also owned lots 102 and 110 in the village.
Notice that John Fisher had a niece named Julia Ireland. There may not be a connection; however, the Ireland family is mentioned among the Ditman files preserved by Eva Ditman. Go to the Ditman Family images page, scroll to the bottom and read about Joe Ditman attending the 1893 World's Fair in Chicago.
Tammy Thome contributed some images of Thome family members. See the Thome Family page. Tammy also contributed a photo of Ray Bufler. See it near the bottom of the Bufler Family page.

Mr. Henry's name appears among others from the Darrtown / Milford Township area who served in the American Civil War. See Mathias Henry's death notice at People/Individuals/H-L.
A 1914 copy of the Butler County Democrat newspaper (Hamilton, Ohio) reported the passing of Darrtown native and Civil War veteran, Mathias Henry.
A 1909 Berea Kentucky newspaper published the story of a Butler County (Ohio) Women's Christian Temperance Union meeting in Darrtown. Still active today, the WCTU was prominent in promoting the prohibition of alcohol in the early 1900s. This local 1909 effort is consistent with information that is reported at this website, in a section titled history of Darrtown taverns.
The Darrtown Doctors page was updated, thanks to an article that appeared in the March 27, 1924 Hamilton (Ohio) Journal News. See the chronology of Darrtown doctors.
The Frank McVicker auction was reported, in an article that appeared in the Sept. 15, 1926 Hamilton (Ohio) Evening Journal. Click the gray oval to see the story.
