The following story appeared in the July 9, 1930 edition of the Hamilton (Ohio) newspaper.

Webmaster note about the GEOGRAPHY and/or LOCATION of this incident:

For the reasons noted in the following paragraphs, it seems likely that this 1930 drowning occurred at the intersection of Schollenbarger Road and Lanes MIll Road - which is the same location as the 1956 drowning incident (see the drowning locations page).

REASON #1: The news article (above) refers to the "High Bank" and Joe Pater, recalls that the area of the creek adjacent to the Schollenbarger and Lanes Mill intersection was locally known as the "high bank." Joe is particularly familiar with that section of Four Mile creek, as he ran a trapline along the creek with his father, Edward in the 1950s.

REASON #2: The Don Gintner home (cited in the news article seen above) was located about two-tenths of a mile from the Schollenbarger and Lanes Mill intersection (see the images of this location at the Drowning-1956 page. Again, it seems likely that persons who were visiting the Gintners and wanted to swim in the creek would have gone to the nearest swimming area - which would have been at the High Bank.

Webmaster note about the FAMILY CONNECTIONS related to this incident. The family connections described below help locate the likely scene of the drowning.

The above newspaper account reports that the victim of this 1930 drowning and two of his siblings accompanied their relatives, Mr. and Mrs. Richard Green, to visit at the Don Gintner home.

Research at the Darrtown Family Tree revealed the following family relationships:

Robert Richard Krause was the son of Jacob Daniel Krause who was the brother of Mrs. George Gintner, who was the mother of Mrs. Richard (Hazel Gintner) Green.

Thus, Robert Richard Krause and two of his siblings went with their cousin Hazel (Gintner) Green and her husband Richard Green to visit Hazel's parents, Don and Caroline (Krause) Green - who were the uncle and aunt of Robert Richard Krause and siblings.

These family connections are illustrated in the following image, which is a portion of the Gintner branch of the Darrtown Family Tree.

The information that clarifies the Krause-Green-Gintner family connections is an example of how the Darrtown Family Tree supplements and enriches this website.

The majority of the Darrtown Family Tree work has been performed by Kim Johnson - whose connection to Darrtown officially began when he married Sally Rinal, granddaughter of Luther McVicker.
