2024 Grange Community Service Project

Good morning Fred

I thought it would be good to add to the Grange page, a community project we have been working on for nearly a year. By way of a Grant through the Butler Rural Electric Community Connection program, the Grange received a Grant to design a flag disposal box to be placed at the Collinsville Community Center for all of Milford Towship and surrounding areas.

Many people told us they had tattered flags and had been looking for a proper place to dispose of them. When our efforts to try and obtain an old blue, out of service, postal style box failed, the Grange purchased a parcel post box like many businesses have for their deliveries.

After obtaining the box, we located a local Wrap Designer to give our ideas to. As luck would have it, the designer was Luxurious Wraps located in Somerville! Owner, Jay Hammond, worked with us to do a patriotic design with verbiage about its use. The result in design is outstanding and very eye-catching.

The box was delivered to the Butler County Fairgrounds just in time for opening day of the Fair in July, and was placed in the Art Hall with the other two Grange displays to let people know about it and where it would be located for future use.

Near the end of August, a few Milford Township Grange members met at the CCC to install the box. Taking the lead was Bill Eisele, Kevin Blakley, and Stephan Janos. Also on hand was AJ Morrow, Township Maintenance Worker and Molly Hansel, Township Clerk.

The first check of the contents of the box a couple of weeks later, shown pictured, was 29 flags! Previously the Grangers had collected another 15. Two more flags were added to the total by the first burning ceremony on September 13, the regular monthly Grange meeting at the home of Phil and Beverly Foutz.

A short ceremony about the flag, proper behavior and reverence for the flag, how to fold a flag, as well as a patriotic poem and song were included during the burning of the flags.

Let me know if you have any other questions.
