Semper Fidelis is a Latin phrase that translates to "Always Faithful."

The existance of the Darrtown Semper Fidelis club was discovered in early January 2021 - during an Internet search for Darrown history.

From the various newspaper accounts of the club's activities that were discovered (see below), it became apparent that this organization qualified for inclusion in at least three locations at this website - i.e., the church section; the service section; and the social section.

A core function of the club was of a religious nature, as the club actively participated in the observance of traditional Christian holidays and routinely conducted devotional studies during the club meetings.

However, many of the reported Semper Fidelis activities provided a social benefit - both for the members of the club and for the Darrtown community at large. Therefore, the Semper Fidelis Club of Darrtown has been catagorized, at this website, as a "social" organization.

The following description of the Darrtown Semper Fidelis club was drawn from the newspaper clippings (replicated below) that were found during the Internet search:

1. The club existed in the 1930s. We do not know when it began or ended.

2. The club was a community organization, as it was sponsored by the Darrtown Union Sunday School. This unified approach is reflected in three news articles below; [1934-02-08], [1935-04-19], and 1935-04-24].

3. The club's membership included people who were members of the Darrtown Lutheran and Darrtown Methodist churches.

4. The club meetings were primarily conducted at the Darrtown Lutheran church. This may have been a matter of space consideration, as the Lutheran church had a "social" room and (presumably) the Methodist church did not.

The Darrtown Lutheran church shared a minister with the Oxford (Ohio) Lutheran church

Note the quote above that the "membership is made up of young people from the village churches."

Note, in the column at the right, that the ministers from both Darrtown churches particated in the "Visitors Night" meeting that attracted 125 people.

Harry Teckman had a trucking business that was headquartered in Darrtown

ABOVE: Both of these articles illustrate the unique operation of the Darrtown Union Sunday School. As reported above, on Wednesday, April 11, 1935, the Semper Fidelis Club met at the Darrtown Lutheran Church and then traveled to the Darrtown Methodist church to attend a Lenten service. During the service, Mrs. R. Kirk Mee (a Methodist) sang a solo and Mrs. Lawrence Gaiser (a Lutheran) accompanied her at the piano.

Mrs. Raymond Schmidt, named in the column at the right was Mrs. Marie Schmidt, longtime principal of the Collinsville School.

Mr. Paul Miller, referenced in the column at the right, was likely the same Paul Miller who taught at Darrtown H.S. and later became the Superintendent of the Cincinnati school system.

Mr. W. Hobart Ogden was the principal of Darrtown High School. He is seen in the 1930 senior class photo.
