Return to the Music Groups page

BACKGROUND: In 2014 and 2019, as noted on the "Music Groups" page, two newspaper articles about the Darrtown cornet band, were donated to this website. Each article included a photo of the Darrtown band. The two images were identical and, as it often happens with photographs published in vintage newspapers, the image quality is less than pristine.

Then, in December 2022, Mrs. Cathy (Myers) Leffler contacted the webmaster about donating an ORIGINAL photo of the Darrtown cornet band to this website.

Cathy's thoughtful contribution makes it possible to share the original photo (below). This kind of sharing is consistent with the goal of this website; to serve as an electronic scrapbook for the Darrtown community.

Someone attached the original image to a piece of sturdy paper, similar to cardboard.

The image is approximately six inches wide and four inches tall.

ENHANCEMENTS TO THE ORIGINAL PHOTOGRAPH

Photo enhancement technology was used to create the following reproductions.

ORIGINAL PHOTOGRAPH

The color of the original band uniforms is unknown, at this time.

A 1894 newspaper article identified the members of the band:

From left to right:

Seated: George Bowman, Jr., John Darr, Ed Phillip, George Geisler, and Charlie Hinkle.

Standing: George Bowman Sr., Dr. Shaffer, Ben Bufler, Joseph Bufler Sr., leader of the band, John Kolb, Peter Leibrich, Frank Bufler, Jr., and Orla Shaffer."
