...NEW INFO about an OLD FEATURE in the village square.

You may be familiar with the work done in the northwest quadrant of Darrtown's village square, since the 2014 Darrtown Bicentennial. If so, then you know about the addition of the military plaza (and the pavers engraved with names of area veterans), the flag pole, the commemorative bench, and more recently, the M60 tank.

A present-day photo of the older monument appears at the following link.

A 1956 news item that provides information about the creation and the dedication of the older monument has been added to the website. The following link displays the news clipping.

Are you aware that an older monument honoring area veterans stands in the SOUTHEAST quadrant of the village square?

FYI... the 1956 news item refers to (1) Rev. Zinger of the Darrtown Lutheran church (therefore, his name has been added to the chronology of Darrtown Lutheran ministers) and (2) the Tallawanda Garden Club, which was a Darrtown-based group of women (see more at: the Tallawanda Garden Club).

...a NEW old  photo OF THE DARRTOWN CORNET BAND

It's an old image; but, it's new to us.

Thanks to Cathy Leffler, the website now has an original picture of Darrtown's cornet band.

a "Blue and Gold quintet" story

A recently-found 1929 news clipping refers to the Darrtown High School basketball team as the "blue and gold quintet."

This helps answer the question: What were the official colors of Darrtown High School?"

THE DYNES FAMILY

The connection between Darrtown and the Dynes family dates back to the 1920s. The addition of the Dynes family page at this website was triggered by the discovery of a 2022 news item.

5 cents

Sorry, incorrect...

10 cents

Yes, ten cents was the chosen limit for a Christmas exchange gift.

25 cents

Na, baby, na. 25 cents was not the choice of the club.

50 cents

Unfortunately, this is not the amount that the club set for an exchange gift.

The Oxford Observer golf course story is replicated at the recently created Dynes Family page.

In December 2022, an article about a Dynes descendant appeared in the Oxford Observer. The story reported how Chris Dynes, a Darrtown native and the Superintendent of the Hueston Woods golf course, guided the refurbishment of the greens and fairways at Hueston Woods State Park.
