RIGHT:
This news article appeared in the Hamilton (Ohio) Journal News on October 27, 1996.
TWO SIGNIFICANT EVENTS WITHIN 14 YEARS!
Members of the Darrtown Methodist Church celebrated two historic events within a period of 14 years.
> ANNIVERSARY OF STRUCTURE: In 1996, the building turned 125 years old
- as it was constructed in 1871.
> ANNIVERSARY OF ORGANIZATION: In 2010, the church organization turned 200 years old
- as the church was established in 1810.
Documents that were assembled for those two historic events appear below and the history of the church is reflected within those documents.

2012: BICENTENNIAL CELEBRATION OF METHODIST CONGREGATION
LEFT: This photo was taken in 1955, from behind the Weiss home on Main Street, looking westward, toward the Methodist church.
The three photos of the Darrtown Methodist Church (at right and below) were taken by Paul Weiss. The Weiss children (Frances, Bill, and Linn) contributed the images to the Darrtown.com website.
ABOVE: This image captures some work behind the Methodist Church. Bill Weiss suggested that Ben Barbour may have been the bulldozer operator. And, yes, the small structure between the bulldozer and the church is an "outhouse" - i.e., outdoor toilet.
ABOVE: Four "supervisors" include (L-R): Unidentified, Earl Young, Dick Bufler (with hands on hips) and Jerry Young.
Mr. Marvin Russell contributed the next five Bible School images (one at the right and the four below).

Webmaster notes:
The first motion picture, without sound, was introduced in the United States, in 1910. The first "talking" motion picture was introduced in 1927. So, it was a bit of a big deal, in 1933, when the Methodist Church showed motion pictures in Darrtown. Notice that the church made this 1933 event open to the public.
FYI... in 1933, "King Kong" was the top money-making movie of the year. Leading actors of the 1930s included James Stewart, Cary Grant, Henry Fonda, Katherine Hepburn, Clark Gable, Gary Cooper, Humphrey Bogart and Bette Davis.
The following 1937 newspaper clipping was found in December 2022.

JOSEPH DITMAN LETTER ADDRESSES 1933 METHODIST CHURCH HOMECOMING
As evidenced by the content posted below, on September 14, 1933, the Journal News of Hamilton, Ohio published an article about a September 10th homecoming program at the Darrtown Methodist church.
Central to the news article was a letter to the church membership from Mr. Joseph Ditman of Westminster, Maryland. The letter is reproduced below.
Mr. Ditman and his family attended the Darrtown M. E. church during the years that the Ditmans lived on a farm north of Darrtown. The story of the Ditman family moving from Maryland to Darrtown and back to Maryland is told at the Ditman Family page.
Below is the headline that accompanied the 1933 news article.
Below is the link to the transcription of the Ditman letter.
