OCTOBER 2, 1851:  The legend of "Hangman's Hollow" is born, thanks to four men from the Darrtown area.

OCTOBER 4, 1955: Darrtown's Walter Alston managed the Brooklyn Dodgers to their first World Series Championship.

OCTOBER 12, 2011: First meeting of the Darrtown Bicentennial Steering Committee conducted at the Ron and Kathy Wiley home.


OCTOBER 15, 1896: Rural free delivery (RFD) of the U. S. mail began for Darrtown, Collinsville, and Somerville (the first RDF routes in Ohio).

Yes, it appears that these young lads had been playing outdoors at recess, when this photo was taken. Do you wonder if they washed their feet, before returning to the classroom?

This photo of Lela and Walter "Smoky" Alston was discovered at Ancestry.com.

Mr. and Mrs. Alston were longtime Darrtown residents, who lived on Cherry Street.

OCTOBER 15, 2000: The Darrtown community dedicated the Walter Alston Memorial in the village square.


OCTOBER 17, 1920: Historic baseball game played on Darrtown field with professional pitchers throwing for the Darrtown and Hamilton teams.


OCTOBER 22, 1931: The Francis filling station opened for business near the center of Darrtown.


OCTOBER 27, 1996: St. Matthew Lutheran Church conducted a ground-breaking for its new 3,000 square-foot fellowship hall.
