McVicker, Frank L. (1881-1926): The following news article appeared in the Hamilton Evening Journal, August 11, 1926. "Frank Leslie McVicker, son of Joseph and Mary McVicker, was born in Grant county, Indiana, September 28, 1881. Departed this life August 2, 1926, age 44 years, 10 months and 4 days. At the age of six, he came with his parents to Butler county, Ohio, and spent the remainder of his life in this community. His sudden, tragic death in the prime of his life and in full vigor of manhood came as a shock to his family and friends. His life was a notable example of honesty, fairness and untiring energy. In his dealings with his fellow men, it is proverbial that he was always fair and just. He believed in and followed to the letter the spirit of the Golden Rule. He took care of business matters with energy and dispatch. He was a member of the Masonic Order. In early manhood, he united with the Methodist church, Darrtown, and for many years, he was active in its affairs. Cares of recent years kept him from later activities in the church, but he continued his faith in God, until the end of his life and upheld the teachings promulgated by Jesus of Nazareth. In March, 1911, he was united in marriage with Miss Mary Hansel, one of the estimable Christian girls of the community. They lived together until 1918, when Mary was taken away by the hand of death. A faithful, loving helpmate, her passing left his life desolate, left wounds which only a Devine Providence and time could heal. Two years later, October, 1920, he was united in marriage to Miss Olive Reese, who also was a true and faithful wife. Their years of married life were marked by much happiness and bright hopes for coming years. A daughter, Helen, now four years age, was born to this union. The father’s love for his wife and baby was unusual in its intensity and of the sort that passeth understanding. His last thought was of his wife and baby and his last spoken words were “Where’s Helen?” Besides his wife and baby, a father, three brothers, one sister, and a host of friends remain to mourn their loss. Funeral services for Mr. McVicker were held at the McVicker homestead east of Darrtown Wednesday afternoon. Hundreds of sorrowing friends and relatives passed by the mahogany casket, where all that was mortal of Frank McVicker reposed, and looked, with sorrow, upon one who in life had been their friend and neighbor. The spacious living room was gracefully banked with many beautiful floral tributes. Rev. M. N. Mantle of the M. E. church delivered the sermon and read the above fitting tribute to the deceased, which was written by a brother, Ben McVicker, of Marion, Indiana. Rev. Wesley Runk of the Lutheran church, offered prayer and read the hymn, “Lead Kindly Light,” and Tennyson’s “Crossing the Bar.” The pall bearers were Charles N. Hansel, Mark Nichol, Harry Bradbury, George Manrod, B. M. Wyckoff, George Kyger, Fred A. Kramer, and James Harris. Burial was made in Darrtown cemetery, where the Masonic lodge of Oxford used their impressive burial ritual."
