Their children, Charlotte and Robert Russell Dockum attended Seven Mile High School during the mid-1950s, along with students from Darrtown - such as Roger Wiley, Ron Wiley, Bob Young, Ken Russell, and Fred Lindley.

FYI - Emma (Weiss) Derickson perished in a house fire at the age of 30. Details available below.

A connection between Darrtown and the Derickson family occurred, in 1894, when Hanover Township resident Clarence Moody Derickson married Darrtown native Emma Laurine Weiss.

Clarence and Emma were the parents of Linn Derickson and Cleytus Derickson.

Emma Weiss's connection to Darrtown resulted from the marriage of her grandparents Ignaz and Louisa (Kolb) Weiss, both immigrants from Germany. Ignaz entered the U.S. in 1869 and settled in Darrtown, where he became the village blacksmith.

Mrs. Margaret Derickson Becomes 100 Thursday; Alert And Active, 'Aunt Mag' Belies Her Age"

By HILDA FONTAINE

Journal-News Staff Writer

"President Abraham Lincoln, Morgan’s Raid, and the Civil War are vivid memories to Mrs. Margaret Derickson, 3191 Old Oxford Rd., who will reach the century mark on Thursday, December 3.

‘Aunt Mag,’ as she is lovingly known, not only to her nieces and nephews, but to neighbors and community as well, is a charming, little lady, whose keen, twinkling brown eyes; soft, snowy hair and unusually smooth skin belie her many years, and a stranger would probably place her age as about eighty. Blessed with excellent health - ‘the doctor can’t find a single thing wrong with me,’ she assured your reporter, she is singularly alert and active, and performs most of the household chores in the home where she resides with her sister, Mrs. H. L. Derickson.

The daughter of Charlotte Farrell and Stephen Barr, Mrs. Derickson was born on December 3, 1853 in east Cincinnati. She was educated in the old Fulton St. School. She was married to David Derickson on Christmas Day, December 25, 1890 in Farmer City, Illinois and five years later came to Ohio, where she resided a number of years in the vicinity of Franklin and Carlisle.

In County 40 Years

Her husband died in October 1905, and then Mrs. Derickson learned the dressmaking trade and for twelve years, she was employed in the alteration department of several Dayton stores. She has resided in Butler County for about forty years. Having no children of her own, Mrs. Derickson has lavished affection on her sister’s children and their children and those of her friends…”

"Oil Stove Blast May Kill Woman

Mrs. Derickson, of Millville, R. R. 10, Is Severely Burned

Mercy Hospital attendants held slight hope for the recovery of Mrs. Emma Derickson, 30, Rural Route 10, Millville, who received severe burns over her entire body Thursday evening when a coal oil stove exploded at her home.

She was preparing the evening meal and while lighting the stove with a torch the explosion occurred. She first attempted to blow the flames off her dress and when this proved futile, she ran to the yard. There, she managed to extinguish the fire, but only after burns had covered her entire body. Her husband, who had been doing some chores around the farm hear his wife's cries and hastened to her aid. He took her to Mercy hospital where her condition today was very critical."

Funeral Service at Darrtown Monday -- Burial There Also

Prolonged shock coupled with severe and deep burns caused the death of Mrs. Emma Derickson, 31, Rural Route 10, at 6:55 o'clock, Saturday morning at Mercy Hospital.

He took his wife to Mercy Hospital where every bit of medical skill and careful attention was accorded her.

Mrs. Derickson was a well known Butler County woman. She is survived by her husband, Clarence; two children, Linn, four years old, and Cleytus, two years old; her mother, Mrs. Louise Weiss; one brother, Will, and one sister, Mrs. Luima Bowers, all of Darrtown.
