FAMILIES D-H: DECKER ~ Theodore "Doe" Decker

We hope to add more info and photos regarding the Decker family, which lived on and operated the farm located immediately west and south of the Darrtown cemetery on Schollenbarger Road.

If you posses information and images of the Decker family that you are willing to share, please contact the Darrtown.com webmaster.

RIGHT: This photo was contributed by Paul Decker, when he attended the April 18, 2009 "Darrtown Gathering" at the Hitching Post.

Paul can be seen sitting on the lap of Theodore "Doe" Decker at the right end of the front row. Doe Decker is Paul's grandfather. The little girl sharing grandpa's lap is Paul's sister, Ruth.

Paul could not identify the others in the photo. However, we do know that the picture was taken during an undated Hitching Post Christmas Party. This image also appears on Page 3 of "Events."

GOOD NEWS! SOME OF THE PREVIOUSLY "UNKNOWNS" IN THE ABOVE PHOTO ARE IDENTIFIED!

Here's an example of how electronic sharing of information can enrich a website [and more importantly, the lives of others]. Thanks to a May 30, 2009 email message from Andy Popst, we have been able to identify several of the persons shown in photo above - who were previously unidentified. Andy identified the men in the photo, as listed at the right.

(L-R front) Waldo Stumpf, Henry Popst, Joe Shriever, and Doe Decker.

(L-R back) Glen Butterfield and Mark Nichol; unfortunately, the third man (back-right) is still unidentified.

Mr. L. A. Miller wrote the following in his 1913 diary: (Sunday, October 19): "Sun. Oct. 19 - I attended the obsequies of two people today. Mrs. Geo. Bowman & the other Clinton Decker - the first pupil that I met; he and his bro. Theo - on my first day as teacher, in 1881 - 1st Monday in Sept. Clinton was about 11 yrs. & Theo. 7 yrs of age. Clinton was a victim of typhoid fever. He made a heroic struggle - poor man - leaves a wife, two daughters, and a posthumous child to be soon."

A piece of the Decker family history found in Miller Diaries
