Area educator receives the Harry and Virginia Teckman Award

Megan Sparks, a physical education teacher at Marshall Elementary school, recently received the 2023 Teckman Educator Award. This annual award was established in 1997 by siblings Charles and Joan Teckman in honor of their parents, Harry and Virginia Teckman - both of whom were longtime Darrtown residents.

Owen Kelly's service, as Darrtown's constable in the mid-1950s is well documented. However, it is not as well known that Owen Kelly reportedly found work in another field, prior to serving as constable.

Last month's newsletter featured former Darrtown constable, Owen Kelly, as the subject of the "Who Am I" game.

The group of volunteers that organized the 200-year celebration enjoyed their time together so much that they continue to meet occasionally.

JULY 5, 2014:  Approximately 3,000 people attended the two-day Darrtown Bicentennial celebration in E-Dot Park.

JULY 8, 1956: The Darrtown community dedicated the original Veterans' Memorial in the village square (located next to the fire house).

JULY 8, 1927: Bids being accepted for wiring of K. of P. lodge hall.

JULY 29, 1908: Construction underway on new school house.
