The following was compiled and edited from information provided to the Darrtown.com Webmaster by Paulette (Schultz) Sloan (in mid-October 2009) and Steve Guiler (in early November 2009). Paulette Sloan and Steve Guiler are cousins - and the grandchildren of Jacob and Rose Guiler.

Guiler family memories

- by Paulette Schultz:

In her October 2009 e-mail messages, Paulette (Schultz) Sloan remembered her maternal grandparents (Jacob and Rose Guiler) in the following manner:

"Jacob and Rose Guiler had five children: three daughters, Helen, Elizabeth, and Louise Guiler and two sons; Eugene and Fred Guiler."

The following was concluded from written communication with Paulette (Schultz) Sloan, in mid-October 2009.

"Jacob and Rose Guiler family lived at several locations in Darrtown - the last residence was located on the west side of Main Street. At one time, the Jacob and Rose Guiler family lived on a farm located at the northwest corner of Darrtown. That farm, which Jacob and Rose referred to as the "McKee" farm, was accessible from a lane that ran along the north side the barn that sits on the property owned by Kirk Mee I and II. The lane, from Rt. 177 to the farm buildings, ran west for about 400 yards and then turned north for approximately 200 yards."

Guiler family memories

- by Steve Guiler:

In his November 2009 e-mail messages, Steve Guiler shared the following information about the Guiler family and the Guiler-Schultz family connection:

"I'm Steve Guiler, son of Eugene Guiler.

Eugene Guiler was the son of Rose and Jacob Guiler of Darrtown.

Our Dad died in 1983 and is buried in Darrtown Cemetary. He was married to Roberta (Bohlander) of Hamilton who passed away in 1981, buried in Hamilton. They had two daughters, Karen and Debbie, and two sons, Mike and me. Karen lives in San Diego; Debbie in St. Paul, Indiana; Mike in St. Pete, Florida; and I live just outside Cincinnati. Karen has a son. Debbie has a boy and girl. Mike has a daughter and grand-daughter. I am divorced and have no kids.

Dad had three sisters (Helen, Elizabeth, and Louise Guiler) and one brother (Fred Guiler).

> Helen, married Herman Schultz, as mentioned on the Schultz family page.

> Elizabeth Krauth and family resided in Darrtown for awhile, then moved to Oxford, and eventually ended up in St. Petersburg, Florida, in the early 60's. We went there on vacation several times.

> Louise Young and family lived in Darrtown for quite awhile; I believe on Walnut Street. I remember playing pick-up baseball across the street from their house, in a field that always seemed to have something going on in the early/mid 60's. Uncle Earl sort of collected old tractors/farm machinery and had some hogs in a barn out back. I remember visiting them often.

> Dad's brother, Fred Guiler, is still alive and lives just outside Darrtown, down Rt 177. For many years, he resided close to his current residence on a small farm. My brother and I used to chase the chickens around their pen to try and catch them when we were very young."
