My first memory in Darrtown is of the grape vines behind the house next to Dees store; not sure why.

We moved to our new house in 1953 on Mulberry Street, at East Street. Ben Bufler roughed in the house; my father did the wiring, put in the windows and plumbing. Money was tight.

My father drove a fuel truck and did welding on Ben Barbour's equipment. About 1954 or 55, he went into the Pallet Cleaning business and hauled gravel for the Acton lake Dam Project. My father hired three Dutch families, in about 1954. The Methodist church sponsored them and my father signed papers that he would employ them. Boy, you never heard anything, but praise for this country, out of them.

My first friend was Cindy Tomlinson; I  pulled her around in my wagon. I have a picture of this. We watched all the western TV serials together and science fiction movies.

I remember going to birthday parties for Jenny Barbour, Naomi Witherby, Frances Weiss, Dale Bowman, Steve Wagonfield, Milly Transier, and Frank Scott.

I remember catching the school bus, on Scott Road and waiting inside a small cabin next to Baumann’s barn, in the winter time. The cabin is where a man named Wolf lived, …before my time.

I will send more later when I get my memories together.
