Last month's newsletter reported a group of gypsie families gathering at a campground near Darrtown. That triggered a memory for Darrrtown native, Rick Martin.

Darrtown Pike began as a trail through the forest.

Kay Weiss contributed an 1838 newspaper item about a meeting to construct a turnpike from Hamilton to Darrtown, Fairhaven, and Oxford. See: Turnpike discussed

…on Lane’s Mill, going through the bridge, towards McGonigle; it was on the right. There were still remnants of a log cabin there in the 60s - just a couple of logs. My father’s family used it in the 30s. It would be a good place for a metal detector."

MAY 7, 1919: Tank show in Darrtown; estimated 500 people saw the military machine that hastened the end of WWI.  See L.A. Miller's diary entry for May 7, 1919.

MAY 13, 1892: Knights of Pythias Lodge No. 578 organized in Darrtown (per entry in L.A. Miller's 1932 diary).

MAY 20, 1871: Darrtown Odd Fellows Lodge announced receipt of official charter from the state IOOF organization.
