Winifred (Alston) Morrow

(1897-1971)

Mr. and Mrs. Clyde E. Morrow are believed to have been the first Morrow family members to have lived in Darrtown or vicinity - during a brief residency (circa 1954-55). For the better part of a year, Clyde and Winnie lived in the house that sits on the southwest corner of Main and Apple streets in Darrtown, while they were "between farms."

Webmaster Note: Rick Martin, the grandson of Stanley Alston (Winifred's brother) provided the explanation of how Clyde and Winnie once lived in Darrtown.

The Morrow bloodline returned to the Darrtown community, in 1992, when John Morrow and wife, Annmarie, purchased and moved to the former Smith farm - located about one mile north of Darrtown on St. Rt. 177.

BEFORE VIEWING the video, you are invited to review the following list of events that span 100 years and led to the discovery of multiple connections between the John Morrow family of present time and numerous Darrtown pioneers of years long gone.

Webmaster note: At first glance, the info that appears above seems to capture the extent of the Morrow family connection to Darrtown, because...

...no records have been found to indicate that other Morrow family members lived in or near Darrtown, and...

...federal census records show that members of the Morrow extended family resided in the village of Somerville and/or southern Preble County.

HOWEVER, as shown in the VIDEO BELOW, genealogy records reveal that

the Morrow bloodline connects to multiple Darrtown pioneer families.

In 1922, John W. Smith bought the Josephus Ditman farm, which is located about one mile north of Darrtown, on the west side of St. Rt. 177.

At some unknown point, the Smith farm transferred from John W. Smith to his son, John A. Smith.

In 1992, John Morrow bought the Smith farm from Helen Smith, the widow of John A. Smith.

In 2021, James Ditman, the grandson of Josephus Ditman, contacted the Darrtown webmaster regarding his grandfather's connection to Darrtown. This led to the creation of the Ditman Family page.

In June 2022, James Ditman traveled from his home in Maryland to Darrtown to visit the farm that his grandfather, Josephus, once owned. During his visit, James Ditman met John Morrow.

Upon returning to his home in Maryland, James Ditman informed Fred Lindley, the Darrtown.com webmaster, that he had met John Morrow.

Fred Lindley, having never met John Morrow, contacted John by email and the two men soon engaged in electronic correspondence that led to the creation of this Morrow family page.

Fred also enlisted the help of Kim Johnson, the website's guru for all things related to Ancestry.com, which led to the discovery of the multiple connections between the Morrow family and the Darrtown pioneer families that are cited in the following video.
