(2) The final sentence of this article refers to this Butler County teachers' "protective association" movement being "extended all over Ohio," which suggests that the movement may have been the start of a statewide teachers' organization. However, the history of the Ohio Education Association reports that (54 years earlier) in 1847, a group of teachers met in northeastern Ohio's Summit County and established the Ohio State Teachers' Association.

It seems reasonable to conclude that the design of this meeting reflects the leadership and influence that Lewis Miller was exhibiting among his fellow educators in 1892.
