Webmaster notes:

(1) The press clipping (at the left) confirms that Mr. L. A. Miller was the Superintendent of the Darrtown schools in 1901.

(2) The final sentence of this article refers to this Butler County teachers' "protective association" movement being "extended all over Ohio," which suggests that the movement may have been the start of a statewide teachers' organization. However, the history of the Ohio Education Association reports that (54 years earlier) in 1847, a group of teachers met in northeastern Ohio's Summit County and established the Ohio State Teachers' Association.

Notice that the meeting was being held at the Darrtown school building - where Mr. L. A. Miller was the school superintendent and notice that Mr. Miller was the keynote (first) speaker of the day. It seems reasonable to conclude that the design of this meeting reflects the leadership and influence that Lewis Miller was exhibiting among his fellow educators in 1892.

An 1892 newspaper article that announced a meeting of the West Butler County Teachers Association, at the Darrtown public school building.
