CONNECTING THE KELLY FAMILY TO DARRTOWN

The connection between Darrtown and the Kelly family began in 1948, according to the documented facts (posted below) and a few assumptions (also posted below),

A 1901 birth record verifies the date when Owen L. Kelly was born and the names of his parents.

Records confirm that the following events occurred in the lives of Owen and Helen (Slack) Kelly, PRIOR TO their arrival in Darrtown, in 1948.

A 1920 census report shows Owen working as a seaman out of  Glouceser Harbor, Massachusetts.

A 1931 news item from Port Clinton, Ohio announced the engagement of Owen Kelly and Helen Slack.

A 1940 census report lists Owen as a crew member on a U.S. Coast Guard patrol boat out of Port Huron, Michigan.

Extra info

Lots 60, 61, 68, and 69 are four half-lots that comprise the village square. When Conrad Darr platted the village, he specified that these four half-lots would exist, as public property, in perpetuity. Presently (2023), this common ground, in the center of Darrtown, features the Veteran's monument, the Alston memorial, and the fire department building.

The Beasley family operated Beasley's Bakery in Oxford, Ohio, which was located at the southeast corner of High and Beech streets.

On January 12, 2023, Diane Jeffries, granddaughter of Owen and Helen Kelly, contributed an obituary for her mother, Jean (Kelly) Beasley - which has been posted at People/Individuals/A-C.
