Felix Dewitt Fowler (1809 - 1859)

Felix D. Fowler was born in Butler County, Ohio, the oldest of 8 known children of James A. Fowler and Elizabeth Devore.

Felix's middle name is thought to be “Dewitt”, a likely tribute to Captain Zachariah Dewitt. Felix’s father James A. Fowler served in Capt. Dewitt’s Ohio Militia in the War of 1812.

Felix married Susan Pitman in Butler County, Ohio on January 24, 1830. They had seven known children (they are named in the "life sketch" link below).

The Felix Fowler family first moved to Darrtown around 1835.

By 1840, Felix and his father, James D. Fowler, had acquired several lots in Darrtown.

In 1847, Felix sold his Darrtown properties to his father and moved his family to Tippecanoe County, Indiana.

An 1850 U.S. federal census reported Felix's occupation as a carpenter.

Around 1853, the Felix Fowler family returned to Darrtown.

In 1855, Felix and his family moved to Iowa to occupy land that had been given to his father, James A. Fowler, for his service in the War of 1812.

In 1859, at the age of 50, Felix Fowler died in Louisa County, Iowa.
