FAMILIES D-H: DECKER ~ Robert Addison Decker
We hope to add more info and photos regarding the Decker family, which lived on and operated the farm located immediately west and south of the Darrtown cemetery on Schollenbarger Road. Paul Decker, the great-great-grandson of Robert Addison Decker contributed the photo at the right, when he attended the April 18, 2009 "Darrtown Gathering" at the Hitching Post.
Paul can be seen sitting on the lap of his grandfather, Theodore "Doe" Decker, at the right end of the front row. The little girl sharing grandpa's lap is Paul's sister, Ruth.
Paul could not identify the others in the photo. However, we do know that the picture was taken during an undated Hitching Post Christmas Party. This image also appears on Page 3 of "Events."

Mr. L. A. Miller wrote the following in his 1913 diary: (Sunday, October 19):
"Sun. Oct. 19 - I attended the obsequies of two people today. Mrs. Geo. Bowman & the other Clinton Decker - the first pupil that I met; he and his bro. Theo - on my first day as teacher, in 1881 - 1st Monday in Sept. Clinton was about 11 yrs. & Theo. 7 yrs of age. Clinton was a victim of typhoid fever. He made a heroic struggle - poor man - leaves a wife, two daughters, and a posthumous child to be soon."
Records at Ancestry.com identify Robert A. Decker as the pioneer of the Decker branch of the Darrtown Family Tree.
As seen in the Ancestry.com chart below, Robert and Mary Decker had seven children; Hezekiah, William, James, Samuel, Joseph, Marrietta, and Sarah.

According to a 1901 newspaper item, Clinton Decker suffered a painful injury when a "spirited animal" (i.e. - horse) caused a patella displacement (i.e. - his kneecap was knocked out of place). The links at the right reveal the news item and a transcription of the same.
Butler County Democrat - April 4, 1901 - page 9 Serious Accident Befell Clint Decker on Last Sunday. Clint Decker, son of William Decker, who resides on the John Mee farm, near Jericho, met with a serious accident Sunday afternoon. Decker had gone to Darrtown, driving a spirited animal attached to a buggy, and on the road the animal became unmanageable and kicked the dash out, striking Decker on the kneecap, turning it clear around Dr. Hugh Moore was summoned. Several attempts were made to place the cap to Its right position, but without avail. On Wednesday, another attempt was made.
Ancestry.com records show that Clinton Decker died at the age of 45 years (1868-1913).
