The links at the right corroborate the following facts about Mrs. Elizabeth (Gentry) Cowen, wife of Dr. Joseph B. Cowen:

(1) her maiden name; (2) her marriage to Joseph; and (3) her place of residence in 1950 (Bath, Indiana).

Bath, Indiana is about four miles from Mixerville, Indiana and a 1901 news clipping (available in Joseph's section above) shows that Elizabeth's parents lived in Mixerville, Indiana. Also, Elizabeth's marriage license indicates that Mixerville was her place of birth. So, it seems that widow Cohen returned to her roots in southeast Indiana, for her final years.

No exact date of death for Elizabeth has been found (as of January 2023). However, the photo of her headstone cites 1955 as her year of death.

Darrtown Pioneer Designation

Research (documented below) led to the conclusion that husband and wife, Joseph Bernard Cohen and Elizabeth (Gentry) Cohen were the first Cohen family members to live in or near Darrtown.

The conclusion is based on an assumption that, when Dr. Cowen opened his medical practice in Darrtown, he and Elizabeth also moved their residence from Oxford, Ohio to Darrtown. Until evidence proves that assumption to be incorrect, Joseph and Elizabeth are recognized as the pioneers of the Cohen branch of the Darrtown Family Tree.
