We moved into Darrtown in August of 1958. There was Kenneth (1938), Douglas (1939).
Doug had already left the family, before moving to Darrtown. He found his true love and married. Kenny was in the service, at the time we moved there.
Then, there was Gary (1943), Marvin (1946), Elaine (1950), and David (1956).
It was nice moving into a new home, after living at the place before - because we had running water, an indoor bathroom - which we never had before.
That was the start of Bufler building homes in Darrtown. $9995.00 was the going price, at that time.
Our grandmother, Alda McWhirther bought the home next door, with her coming from Losantville, Indiana, as her husband, our grandfather, Forrest McWhirter, had died earlier, in 1958.
Mrs. McWhirter was a member of the Darrtown Methodist Church. Our grandmother was attending a function one evening, in 1963, and had a heart attack and passed away that evening. Five months later, our father Arthur, passed away, the same year. Not a good year for our mother, Elinor and the family.
Doug was married in 1957 to Patricia Landrum and Kenny married in 1962 to Carolyn Lemmons.
Gary was in the Army, in Germany, when Dad died and he got home for the funeral. Our mother was having to raise Marvin, Elaine, and David on her own, until we left the nest.
Darrtown was a nice place to live, while growing up for our family; but, no one, but Kenny, stayed in Darrtown.
My wife and I (Marvin and Patty) bought a new Bufler home, by E-dot park, in 1965, when we married; but, left in 1969.
From 1958 to 1969 were great years for me and my wife and family in Darrtown.
Lots of good memories.
