A few people alive in 2020 recall that, from the late 1930s up to the early 1950s, gasoline was sold at three locations in Darrtown. These were: McVicker's garage and service station, Dees' grocery store and Wyckoff's grocery store.
The memory of gasoline being available at Wyckoff's was jogged by the discovery of the following image which shows a 1938 newspaper advertisement that includes a reference to "B. M. Wyckoff - Darrtown." This advertisement originally appeared in The Butler County Press
ABOVE: This was a Pure Oil advertisement that listed Butler County businesses where Pure Oil could be purchased. For more info about the oil company, see: Pure Oil
BELOW: This is the only image currently available at this website that shows the gasoline pump in front of the Wyckoff store.
ABOVE: Left to right, Carole Davish, Carrie Bowling, and Joanne Dees. This 1951 photo appears on the Dees Family page.
