Two cars collided at the second intersection north of Darrtown, on St. Rt. 177; one driver received "painful injuries" and the resident of a nearby house assisted the injured man.
...a 1930 newspaper report of an auto accident north of Darrtown
This 1930 news account poses a bit of a puzzle.
The news account reports that the nearby resident who assisted at the accident scene was EMMONS ALSTON, who "lives at the corner where the accident happened."
However, the autobiography of Walter Alston, Emmons' son, tells that the Emmons Alston family moved to Darrtown when Walt was about 11 years old. Since Walt was born in 1911, it calculates that the Emmons Alston family moved to Darrtown around 1922 ... which enabled Walter to attend Darrtown High School, from which he graduated in 1929.
So, why was Emmons reported as a resident of this location in 1930?
Because, ... according to the 1930 federal census report ... Emmons, wife, son, and daughter lived at that Harris Road location in 1930 ... see the census report and more related info at the Emmons Alston census reports.
